A time-honored tradition for 139 years
In 1879 the von Wunster beer from Heinrich von Wunster was founded in Seriate in the province of Bergamo; after the First World War the factory, which had been closed, reopened and in 1936 was transferred to Bergamo taking the name of Birra Orobia, following the laws of fascism that imposed Italian names to companies of the time.
This name remained until the mid-1960s, subsequently turning into Birra Wunster Spa; the company then had a continuous development and increase in production until at the beginning of the 80s it was transferred to Comun Nuovo in the province of Bergamo.
In 1986 it was sold by the von Wunster family to the Belgian company Stella Artois, and later became property of Heineken, now making the von Wunster brand owned by this Dutch company.
In 2011, Alberto von Wunster, grandson of the founder, decided to produce craft beer to continue the family tradition by dusting off the name Orobia used in past years.
With a brewer’s diploma in Munich and several years of experience in the family brewery and at Birra Menabrea in Biella, Alberto started commercializing Birra Orobia.
